ENVIRONMENT

De La Salle College is located in South Auckland, 25 minutes from Auckland City and 15 minutes from Manukau City. Auckland has a pleasant, temperate climate. Average temperatures range between 14oC (winter) and 24oC (summer). In this idyllic setting, De La Salle College provides a positive place to learn and grow.


SPECIAL CHARACTER

De La Salle College is a integrated Catholic Secondary school for boys (day only). Established in 1953 by the De La Salle Brothers, it continues to educate young men in the Catholic faith and Christian values. Students are encouraged to develop every aspect of their person and a strong emphasis is placed on excellence in academic study, cultural pride and sporting ability. Applicants need to be willing to support the Catholic character of the College.

International Students

COURSES AVAILABLE

De La Salle College offers excellent study opportunities. The academic programme is aimed at providing broad education, which thoroughly prepares students for both life and further study at a tertiary institution. All major subjects are catered for at NCEA (NZ Certificate of Educational Achievement) Level 1, 2 and 3. Subjects offered are English, Mathematics (Statistics and Calculus), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Science, Computing, Geography, History, Drama, Design Technology, Music, Art, Classical Studies, Accounting, Economics, Sports Studies and Physical Education.


FACILITIES

College facilities include an excellent library, a student centre, a literacy centre, new laboratories, high-class computer rooms, a technology centre, gymnasium, student canteen and extensive, well-maintained grounds.


EXTRA-CURRICULAR PROGRAMME

Vast ranges of sporting activities are promoted at De La Salle College, covering a number of different codes. All students are encouraged to participate somewhere within the extra-curricular programme. Music, drama and other culture activities also feature widely throughout the year.


STUDENT WELFARE

De La Salle College thoroughly understands the importance of caring for International Students. The Director of International Students also ensures that all pupils are well looked after and that their needs are met throughout the academic year. Students are met at the airport if required and regular updates are sent home. Also, Deans at each year level carefully manage all aspects of Pastoral Care.


PROGRAMME FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The Director of International Students is available at all times for enquiries, advice and support. De La Salle College is proudly multicultural, students and staff are from a broad range of countries. Only 20 students in total, are accepted from outside New Zealand and no single country has priority in regards to applications. All classes have experienced teachers who provide English Language support for their respective students.


ACCOMMODATION

De La Salle College does not arrange home-stays for International Students. It is preferred that students live with friends of the family or relatives. However, students can be referred to a home-stay agency if required. Home-stay costs are approximately $200.00 per week, but this is variable and is not guaranteed by the College. Note: Students are not permitted to live in flats without mature adult supervision.


FEES

The Tuition Fee is NZ$10,000.00 per annum (includes GST). This covers general tuition, textbooks and most school activities. Extra costs: stationary, uniform, class field trips and examination entry fees.


YEARS OF ENTRY

Overseas students are accepted into Years 11, 12 and 13 only.


ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Students must have a reasonable command of the English Language. A recent school report must accompany the application indicating English Language as one of the applicant's current subjects.
